Liverpool have reportedly met the £32.5m clause for Aston Villa's Belgian striker Christian Benteke.
Reports from BBC and Sky Sports on Friday morning have also suggested that Chief Executive Ian Ayre - who is in Australia - has already submitted an offer and is awaiting a response from Aston Villa.
Benteke scored 12 goals in 12 appearances last season for Tim Sherwood's side making him a target for Manchester United too. But, it seems Liverpool would be able to land the Belgian now that a formal offer has been made.
£32.5m doesn't seem like a very wise fee for Christian Benteke - who surely has quality - but not as much as the price would suggest. If the deal goes through, it would be the second most expensive signing in Liverpool's history, making the Aston Villa striker Brendan Rodgers' sixth signing of the summer following deals for Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Adam Bogdan and Danny Ings.
